Description:
Rosuvastatin belongs to the group of medications known as HMG Co-A reductase inhibitors (statins). It is used, along with a healthy diet and exercise program, to improve cholesterol levels by lowering bad cholesterol and raising good cholesterol. It is also used to treat people who have certain inherited cholesterol disorders.

Indications:
Primary hypercholesterolemia, Heterozygous Hypercholesterolemia (Familial and Nonfamilial), Homozygous Hypercholesterolemia (Familial) & Mixed Dyslipidemia (Fredrickson Type IIa and IIb).

Mode of Action:
Ropitor® (Rosuvastatin) is a selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG Co-A reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme that converts 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme-A to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. Blocking this HMG Co-A reductase enzyme, ultimately blocks Cholesterol synthesis.
