Indications:
Constipation and hepatic encephalopathy.

Mode of Action:
Lactitol increases in osmotic pressure by breaking down to short-chain organic acids in the colon thereby increasing stool water content and stool volume which gives the laxative effect. In hepatic encephalopathy, Lactitol is related to suppression of the absorption of unionized ammonia via lowering of colonic pH.
