Betson-CG®
Betamethasone, Clotrimazole & Gentamycin
Description:
Betson-CG® is the preparation of Betamethasone 0.05%, Clotrimazole 1% and Gentamicin 0.1%. Betamethasone is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive properties. But the exact mechanism of action of corticosteroids is not clearly known. Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent used for the treatment of superficial infections caused by species of pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts and Malassezia furfur. Gentamicin is a bactericidal antibiotic of Aminoglycoside class and is used against a wide range of infections.

Indications:
This Cream is indicated for the treatment of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses when complicated by infections caused by bacteria and fungi. This is also effective in the treatment of tinea pedis, tinea cruris & tinea corporis, acute and chronic eczema.

Mode of Action:
Betamethasone induces lipocortin which inhibits phospholipase A-2 enzyme which results in the inhibition of different inflammartory mediators synthesis like prostaglandins, cinins, histamines. Clotrimazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a major sterol in the fungal cell membrane. This leads to instability of the cell membrane and eventual death of the fungus. Gentamicin acts by irreversible inhibition of protein synthesis by binding to the 30s subunit of bacterial ribosome. As a result the bacteria grows without any functional protein and ultimately are killed.
